Reimagining Care: Shaping a Human Centred, Equitable Care Economy
Featured Work
Shaping an equitable care economy will have ripple effects across families & workforce, ultimately helping to address the sticky barriers emerging from gender based inequalities that pervade workplaces and economies. We are facilitating innovations, designing products, connecting ideas to talent, skills and capital, leveraging technology and human connections to reshape care systems in collaboration with partners and caregivers, with a fierce focus on equity, accessibility, affordability, and resilience.
Visualising the Care Economy
Configuring strong responsive equitable care systems
Care is complex. But Care is also essential and lies at the core of all societies and economies. It impacts billions of people every day, at home, at work, in transit both as givers and receivers of care with more than 2 billion people serving as caregivers, primarily women & unpaid. Demographic transitions across the globe is expected to accelerate the need for care and unlock millions of jobs. Yet the economy remains invisible, hidden!
Improving Access to Affordable Care
Closing the Care Access Gap to fix the Care Crisis
Care currently is an inequitable economy driven mainly by unpaid & underpaid care, while it continues to be expensive and unaffordable for millions. When unpaid care is difficult and paid care unaffordable, workers step up as caregivers. That means more and more caregivers are at risk of missing work and leaving the workforce or continuing to stay out of the workforce. Women, bear a disproportionate share of this burden of care, several times more than men, losing out on opportunities, living in poor health and compromising on their quality of life. Improving access to affordable care can no longer be ignored.
Reduce & Redistribute the Unpaid Care Burden
Shaping an equitable care economy
Care burden falls disproportionately on women, who make up close to 80% of unpaid caregivers and spend close to 40 hours per week providing family care. An inefficient and unorganised care economy, patchy care infrastructure and high cost of care continue to drive unpaid caregiving while improving longevity and other demographic transitions in increasing the burden of care with most caregivers having to care for children as well as seniors. the care economy is failing caregivers currently. opportunities to reduce this unpaid care burden have to be identified and potential solutions scaled. capital, talent, policy and conviction has to converge!
Building Equitable & Sustainable Care Systems that Work for All
Care and caregiving are finally starting to step out of the shadows of being considered as individual responsibilities and burdens—one that overwhelmingly falls on women and girls across most societies and economies. The conversation is shifting, attention is growing, and resources are starting to flow. Policies? still lagging far behind. But CARE is starting to look like a SYSTEM, though quite a broken one at the moment! That's where the CareGrid comes in.
CareGrid is flipping the script on how we approach and think about caregiving by mapping the care infrastructure and connecting the dots to start visualising it. But this isn’t just about linking systems—it’s about changing the game. We can't build an equitable, inclusive, and resilient care ecosystem with the same approaches that got us here. Existing systems need to be reimagined, and new ones have to be designed. And no single organisation or stakeholder can do this alone.
What is the CareGrid?
The CareGrid is an innovative initiative designed to map and connect the diversified caregiving infrastructure, services & networks, shaping a human-centred, equitable care ecosystem. For the first time, we are visualising the structures, services and networks that power and sustain our care economy, spanning child care (including early childhood development), care for people with disabilities (PwD), patient care, senior care, and other complex care needs that individuals and families face.
By fostering collaboration, empowering stakeholders, facilitating product and process innovation & integrating data across the board, the CareGrid is building a robust and responsive caregiving infrastructure—one that’s ready to evolve with the needs of our communities. It aims to develop into a dynamic hub that offers a simplified user experience & clear roadmap for care providers, caregivers, families, payers, and policymakers to navigate the complex care landscape.
Shaping the future of care, together with you
Shaping a stronger care economy will require reimagining care networks, building coordinated care ecosystems and more. Collaborations and Strategic partnerships amongst stakeholders will drive the process. So we are fostering collaboration with entrepreneurs, care providers, donors and investors, employers, payers and policymakers to shape a care ecosystem, that works for everyone.
